About Jack Alden

Creating a melting clock at DMG Studio

His glass journey began in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he worked with molten glass for the first time. Instantly mesmerized by the flowing material, he dove down the rabbit hole with no thought of looking turning back. After taking a class at Zen Glass Studio, he moved to study at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University to pursue a degree in Business and Entrepreneurship.

The Richmond years saw Jack as a teaching assistant for Christopher McElroy in the VCU School of the Arts, as a glass handler for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Chihuly Tour, where he worked with the team to assemble, maintain, disassemble, and prepare the touring Chihuly exhibit for transport. Jack opened Studio 1050 and Sessions Studio while in the Richmond arts community and shared his love of glass with students at the Visual Arts Center. His USArt Odyssey took him to studios and inspiration sites around the U.S. on a quest to discover new studios and collaborate with other artists. Time spent working on his art in France, on Ile de Ré, in Miami, California, Oregon, learning from peers and experts at GAS in Corning, in studios throughout Florida, and in galleries like Duncan McClellan Gallery have given Jack access to some of the best teaching, artistry, and collaborations in the contemporary glass art world.

Throughout his journey, Jack has met and worked with artists from all different walks of life, backgrounds, and mediums. He has always envisioned creating a collective of artists, building a vehicle that will enable them to create work in their field, share ideas, and work towards a greater vision. Socially and sustainably minded, he is working to turn this vision into a reality, bringing positive art, messages and unique products to the world through collaboration.
